The persons in charge of the commissions of the Udalbiltza’s International Relations and of Nationality, Miren Odriozola and Peio Gascón have respectively emphasized yesterday the engagement that the basque diaspora from Argentina and from Uruguay with the process open in Euskal Herria showed. The official elects evaluated positively the last tour made in the framework of the Basque National Week of Córdoba and have emphasized the importance of the basque community which is living outside in this political moment.

During a press conference, Odriozola and Gascón emphasized the important contacts maintained during a recent visit to the two South American countries, where there are a lot of basque communities. So, Gascón emphasized that in the different encounters maintained so much in Uruguay than in Argentina, he perceived a great interest to know by a direct way the information about the process and its ups and downs. In that, he emphasized that exists a varied spectrum of political leaders disposed to promote initiatives for the conflict’s resolution.

By example, he emphasized that in Uruguay he maintained contacts with representatives of various institutional instances, several of them have a basque origin, among them, he cited the meetings held in the municipality of Montevideo and with several uruguayan senators. In the same way, he indicated that in Argentina there were meetings with federal deputies who have a basque origin and with national legislators.

After theses contacts, Gascón went to Córdoba (Argentina), where took place the Basque National Week this year, activity which generally meets together the majority of the euskal etxeak existing in this country. In this framework, the Udalbiltza’s representative made various contacts with different members of the Basque Diaspora, who showed a special interest to know the Euskal Herria’s political situation.

During its presence in Córdoba, Udalbiltza organised a press conference to which took part representatives of various basque political sensivities present in the diaspora. Concretely, accompagnied Gascón, the general secretary of EA in Argentina, César Arrondo, the affiliated to the extra-territorial assembly of PNV, Domingo Ormaetxea, the president of Eusketxe and the widow of the ex leader of the PNV, in exile Andres Irujo, María Elena Etcheverry, the coordinator of the International Association Basque Diaspora Daniel Bilbao and the journalist of Córdoba Mariano Saravia.

During this appearance, the representatives of the diaspora have emphasized the need for creating a trend of opinion in the basque community favourable to the process of peace, by affirming that the nodes of the process are in the right of self-determination and the territoriality, and by noticing that the key for its resolution is in the right to decide. Besides, they showed their engagements to inform and to diffuse punctual information on the process’s walk and to habilitate the ways for the participation of the basque diaspora in this, by the creation of a opinion trend favourable to the new political scene.

Another of the activities developed by Udalbiltza, in Córdoba, was the organisation of a reception for the argentinian euskal etxeak. By this way, 25 members of different Basque centres went to the meeting, in which Gascón gave the vision of the national institution on the political process. In the same way, he emphasized the work that’s making the Assembly of the Elect in different domains and, concretely, he emphasized the important development of the initiative for the EHNA in Argentina.

On this point, it should be emphasized that during the Basque Week and the following tour made by various argentinean euskal etxeak, the responsible of the Udalbiltza’s Nationality’s Commission gave several conferences and signed various agreements and enablings to allow obtaining the basque nationality’s declaration in new towns. By this way, there are already 18 places in Argentina where it’s possible to treat the EHNA, which one must add Montevideo and Barcelona. In the same way, will soon begin the steps in Scotland, in the USA and in Mexico.

Incomprehensible obstacles

For her part, Miren Odriozola emphasized that actually various international actors showed their support to the political process open in Euskal Herria and she recalled the creation of the Friendship in the European Parliament or the Declaration signed by Six political personalities of the international frame. In the same way, she brought back the positions of the Legislative Chamber of the Idaho’s State and of the Chilean Senate. So, she called the international community, basically to the Europe’s states and nations, so that they give evidence of support and of promotion of the process.

In this context, she reiterated that since Udalbiltza, one doesn’t understand the why of obstacles with the work for the peace and the national construction of Euskal Herria, whose the last crowing was the decision of the Spanish National Audience to prohibit the General Assembly of this institution, planned for the last Saturday, the 18.
