Udalbiltza made to know its solidarity with the Juan Paillalef (Araucanía, 9th Chilean State’s région) and with the Mapuche people in general, Juana Calfunao who, after been tortured and imprisoned should appear before a special court of justice, the 13rd february. In this context, Calfunao renounced to the Chilean citizenship claiming the right of her people to the self determination.

In its note, Udalbiltza’s showing its anxiety in front of "the political and judiciary persecution" against this respected indigenous authority, who it’s emphasizing the decision to renounce the Chilean nationality and to claim by this way her mapuche citizenship.

Loren Arkotxa, Udalbitza’s president and this institution’s International Relationships’ responsible, Miren Odriozola, sent a letter to the Bolivia’s recent elected president, Evo Morales, congratulating him for his victory. The Udalbiltza’s representatives are indicating in their note "it’s above all a justice act for the indigenous people encroached upon Bolivia".

By their letter, Arkotxa and Odriozola sent to Morales -first indigenous who attained the presidency in Latin America- their congratulations the most sincere and honest for this president’s mandate. In that, they’re supporting that the Bolivia’s people "made an historical step choosing you and the popular movement you drive like those which will govern the Bolivian country’s destinies for the next five years". They add "it’s above all a justice act for the indigenous people encroached upon Bolivia, which during centuries suffered the dominating class’s humiliation and forgetting".

Insofar as the housing’s right is constituting a fundamental right for everybody, it’s too a fundamental right for all the person and society’s development; Consequently, the homeless’ day, should give us to think.

As we’ve listened these last days, more than 1000 persons are living without any roof in the Basque Self-governing Community. Unfortunately, we can’t put together the numerals from all Euskal Herria but we’re convinced that they’ll be alarming. On the other part, consulting these numerals, we’re noting that they’re misleading since the people whose the housing’s right is refused, aren’t only these who’re in the street, of course, their situations’ cruelty is terrible. In Euskal Herria, thousands of people are seeing their housing’s right to be refused, therefore there are thousands of people who couldn’t have access to an housing, young people for the most part. If we shouldn’t consider the "social mattress" that are the parents, we couldn’t talk about hundreds but thousands persons.

The Udalbiltza’s International Relationships Office evaluated as very positive the work made in 2005 in this sector. The presence of the national institution’s representatives in important international domains and the impulse given to the Basque community outside by various agreements’ signature -among them the one which will permit the EHNA’s obtaining in the Diaspora- prove it.

During the last twelve months, the Udalbitza’s international sector increased its relationships with actors from different parts of the world who are working in different domains. By this way, the national institution disposed of official representations in international congresses which examined, more particularly, the question of the nations without state in the 21st century and the progresses that institutions like Udalbitza can bring in the national construction and conflicts resolution’s processes.

Udalbiltza and the student movement’s representatives appeared together to speak about the Basque Curriculum’s day anticipated the Saturday 28th in the Donostia’s Kursaal. Igor Arroyo, the national institution’s responsable for the Basque Curriculum, took the word for Udalbiltza, while Itziar Zunzunegi and Oihana Llorente appeared for the students. At first, Igor Arroyo presented and reminded the process’s details for the Basque Curriculum’s creation. As we know, now, a debate is taking place, in one part, in the educationnal environement and, in the other part, in the society. Udalbiltza assumed the engagement to articulate this social debate, and, the days which will take place the 28th January in the Kursaal palace will constitute a landmark in this process. The object of this press conference was to put publicly, in the Udalbiltza’s hands, the contribution of the student movement.

The creation’s process of the Basque Curriculum is pushing ahead, and what was, four years ago now, a revendication became a reality. Throughout these four years, the snowball formed by Udalbiltza, the Ikastolas’ confederation and Sortzen-Ikasbatuaz always increased, so much concerning the echo obtained in the educative Community and in the society (the inclusion of the Curriculum among the 2005’s National Debate’s priorities isn’t a luck) than in the number of actors who’re taking part, by some means or other, in this project: Eskola Kristauak, Euzko Ikastola Batza, Biga Bai, EHIGE, Education’s department of the Basque Government…

Udabiltza wanted to greet Laborantza Ganbera at this constitution’s first anniversary. The Bonloc’s town council and the member of the Udalbiltza’s executive commission Dominique Duhalde has led a delegation which takes part, since this morning, in the acts organised today in the Ainize-Monjolose’s centre.

For Udalbiltza, it’s a big satisfaction to take part in this anniversary of an institution’s first year of work, institution born in the dimension of the Euskal Herria and citizens’ necessities. Laborantza Ganbera was constituted as an example of the Euskal Herria’s sectors’ auto-organisation, above the French State’s threats and aggressions.

Udalbiltza’s working to guarantee all the citizenship’s rights from all Euskal Herria, that’s why than more to adhere at this process, it ratifies in front of the Basque society its engagement to take part of it.
However, now, the necessity of this people’s justice and equality is more evident than never, since a woman was killed in Hendaye, the first victim of the conjugal violence, this year, in Euskal Herria. Nevertheless, we’re running the risk that this death and all the others be pushed into the background when the first commotion is over, as if there were isolated facts, when they’re only the hard reflect of the reality.

2005 was a landmark in the history of Udalbiltza, because in many ways, this year just past we have crossed the line between the past and the future. During this year, a year marking the sixth anniversary of the creation of Udalbiltza, we have begun to overcome the consequences of the legal-police attack we suffered in 2003 and we have taken the first steps towards adapting to the new context of nation building and conflict resolution.

Contrary to what happened in 1999, in 2005 Udalbiltza has had partners to work with; the National Debate Forum we promoted has begun to bear fruit, both in the sphere of nation building and in the sphere of conflict resolution.

Representatives of Udalbiltza and the Basque Federation of Wu Shu, which recently won four medals at the World Championship, have signed an agreement aimed at guaranteeing that the national team continues to represent the Basque Country in the international arena. The national institution has expressed its commitment to cooperate with any sportspersons who wish to represent the Basque Country in international competitions.

The press conference was attended by Juan Manuel Erasun, representing Udalbiltza, Patxi Marta Blanco, president of the Basque and European Wu Shu Federations, and Xabier Lertxundi, a wu shu sportsman. During the event, Udalbiltza expressed its congratulations to the Basque Federation of Wu Shu and Kung Fu, for the results they achieved at the World Championship held in Milan, where the national team won four medals. "Obviously, we would also like to congratulate all the sportspersons who have taken part in the Championship and those who were unable to attend due to economic reasons too", said Erasun.
